Clanna Gael Under 9’s played a home Football game against St Marys in Ringsend Park. Matthew’s team played the stronger of St Marys teams. Francis opened the scoring with a great catch and shoot just a few feet from goal, to give CnaG a 1-0 lead, but Mary’s Strong Blocking meant that they stayed in the game.
Further goals from Francis and Emmet and an over from Matthew showed CnaG were making the most of territory, but Marys stayed in the game with 3 Blocking Skill points. In fact we were 6-4 up before Marys scored their first goal.
Our defence remained strong during the first half, with Tomas marshalling the opposition, but no matter how often we attacked, Marys remained in the game with their skill points.
At half time it was 8-9 to Marys. We reorganised in the second half but just couldn’t match their blocking skills. Eoin played a disciplined game in midfield, and Jonathan and Finn really improved their tackles. Hugh positional play was superb, and was always there to collect loose balls, but in the end, their Skill point game was the difference as they won 18-11
